Runaway girl dies in murder-suicide after suspect calls crisis hotline

A runaway teen in Oregon was found dead in a murder-suicide days after the suspect called a crisis line, police said.

Portland Police announced that 15-year-old Annieka Vaughan and 23-year-old Zachary Petersen were the bodies discovered Wednesday in Forest Park.

Authorities determined from the investigation that Peterson fatally shot Vaughan before turning the gun on himself. Each died of a single gunshot wound, according to police.

The pair had allegedly been involved in a relationship since August, the Tri-City Herald reported.

Vaughan ran away from her Aloha home on Oct. 30 — the same day that Peterson disappeared.

Before he left, Peterson reportedly called a suicide hotline in Washington, Oregon Live reported.

Police made a plea for help finding the teen, saying that Peterson was considered suicidal and armed.

Peterson’s car was discovered Monday abandoned with the teen’s backpack.

Their bodies were found Wednesday by authorities during search efforts.
