Jets report card: What a difference a few days make

Grades from the Jets’ 34-21 win over the Bills on Thursday:

Offense

The Jets controlled the game at the line of scrimmage, rushing for 194 yards against a Bills team that entered the game ranked third in the NFL against the rush. RB Matt Forte (14 rushes, 77 yards, 2 TDs) had nothing to complain about after this game. RB Bilal Powell (9 rushes, 74 yards) ran the ball hard as well. QB Josh McCown (14-of-20, 140 yards, 1 TD, 1 rushing TD, 106.2 rating) played a mistake-free game.

Grade: A

Defense

The Jets controlled the Bills until some garbage-time touchdowns. QB Tyrod Taylor (29-of-40, 285 yards, 2 TDs, 6 rushes, 35 yards, 1 TD) was contained in the pocket for most of the night. RB LeSean McCoy (12 rushes, 25 yards) was completely bottled up. The Jets forced three turnovers against a team that had turned the ball over three times all season.

Grade: A-

Special teams

Kicker Chandler Catanzaro made two field goals and punter Lachlan Edwards pinned the Bills inside the 20 twice. The Jets did a good job on coverage, but had little to show from their return game.

Grade: B

Coaching

Give Todd Bowles credit for not allowing this season to spiral out of control. The Jets did not hang their heads during their three-game losing streak and bounced back in a big way Thursday night. Offensive coordinator John Morton was committed to the run, and it worked. On defense, the plan against McCoy and Taylor was effective.
