The Broncos are in quarterback hell

The Broncos faithful must be wistfully remembering the days of Peyton Manning’s noodle-armed passes.

The team finds itself without a clear answer at quarterback following another Trevor Siemian debacle Monday night, when he threw three interceptions in a 29-19 loss to the Chiefs.

“Well I am going to watch the film [Tuesday],” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said after the loss. “Obviously like most coaches would do and see but [Monday], our defense played winning football in my opinion. Our offensive line blocked. We ran the ball for 177 [yards] and the pass [protection] was better, but it all falls back to turning the ball over five times.

“That’s insane. You can’t win turning the ball over five times. Guys work too hard along with coaches and players to have a big game and give it away five times. It is mind boggling.”

The problem for Joseph and the Broncos is the depth chart is unsettled behind Siemian. The Broncos brought back Brock Osweiler after he was released by the Browns, but everything he has done since leaving Denver suggests he has no business being a starting quarterback.

ESPN.com reported that second-year Paxton Lynch would get the nod if the Broncos decide to bench Siemian. Lynch was a first-round pick in 2016 after a prolific career at Memphis. Lynch was mostly mediocre when Siemian was out injured last season and has spent 2017 recovering from a preseason shoulder injury and just returned to practice last week.

The Broncos (3-4) have a defense and running game that are capable of reaching the playoffs. That will mean nothing unless they solve their quarterback situation.
