The White House scolded the media on Tuesday for being “obsessed” with Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation — a day after the special counsel brought criminal charges against three former aides to President Trump.
“You seem completely obsessed with this while a lot of other things happening around the country and frankly people care more about,” administration spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.
She also said that the American people don’t care about the Russia probe, and are far more interested in tax and health care reform.
Her comments echoed those of Mayor de Blasio, who claimed on Sunday that New Yorkers don’t care whether City Hall is corrupt.
“There are much more important issues than what these guys [reporters] are raising,” the mayor claimed amid allegations in court last week that pay-to-play was alive rampant at City Hall.
“But I’m offering [the press] a chance to ask a few more questions. So just let’s bear with them a few more times, and then the rest of New York City will go back to caring about real things,” he said at a post-Hurricane Sandy event.
De Blasio didn’t deny personally seeking a $102,000 donation from businessman-felon Jona Rechnitz for a political project, as the disgraced mayoral donor testified in court Friday.
“The media refuses to cover it. If you look at the records, the questions I take day in day out have far more to do with investigation that frankly Americans don’t care a lot about and whole less about policies that effect them,” she said.
