How QB trade sent Browns to new level of dysfunction

No one is more disheartened over the Jimmy Garoppolo trade than the winless Cleveland Browns.

On Monday evening, the 49ers stunned the NFL by shipping a second-round draft pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for Tom Brady’s backup. The Browns (0-8) had long been rumored to be interested in Garoppolo as their quarterback of the future.

With a 1-23 record over the course of two seasons, coach Hue Jackson, 52, and the coaching staff are reportedly infuriated over the inaction of Cleveland’s front office.

“Got several emails last night that coaching staff for #Browns HIGHLY upset at front office,” Denver-based radio personality Benjamin Allbright revealed in a series of tweets Tuesday morning. “Coaches in building, FO went home at 5.”

Allbright continued, “the front office is undercutting them by not acquiring the talent they need to win, and not putting in matching effort to do so.”

Jackson apparently had made it clear that Brady’s one-time heir apparent and Rams quarterback Jared Goff were his ideal choices for the future of the franchise.

“The two quarterbacks Hue has wanted most since taking over are Goff and Garoppolo,” NFL insider Michael Silver tweeted Monday. “It’s fair to put RG3 [Robert Griffin III] on him. But it’s never his call.”

The Browns, once again, continue to swim in a sea of controversy and dysfunction, which was highlighted by none other than Jackson’s own flesh and blood in Silver’s Twitter mentions.

“… Can’t land a player if you’re not on the phones …,” Jackson’s daughter, Baylee, posted, later replying, “I’m gonna start wrecking all these idiot theories real soon.”

Cleveland lost its eighth straight game this season, following a 33-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London with embattled rookie DeShone Kizer under center. Currently on a bye, they’ll next face the Lions (3-4) in Detroit on Nov. 12.
