Students at one Florida university will get the chance to explore “white racial domination” — and devise ways to disrupt it in a new class being offered in the spring.
The special topics course “White Racism” promises to teach students at Florida Gulf Coast University to delve deeper into the “racist ideologies, law, policies and practices that have operated for hundreds of years to maintain white racial domination over those racialized as non-white.”
The class will be taught by Dr. Ted Thornhill, according to NBC2.
It will also give students a chance to “discuss ways to challenge and disrupt white racism and dethrone white supremacy in the service of engendering an anti-racist society where whiteness is not tied to greater life chances,” according to the course description.
FGCU told NBC that professors usually name and describe their courses with approval by the department.
