Latest ‘Star Wars’ trailer debuts during ‘Monday Night Football’

A long time ago in a stadium far, far away …

Disney debuted an all-new trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” during halftime of “Monday Night Football” — trotting out a fleet of First Order Stormtroopers onto Soldier Field for good measure.

The action-packed footage opens with a shot of Kylo Ren, played by actor Adam Driver, peering into what appears to be a First Order military hangar.

Supreme Leader Snoke can then be heard speaking off-screen to his young apprentice — or perhaps someone else entirely, such as Daisy Ridley’s Rey.

“When I found you, I saw raw, untamed power — and beyond that, something truly special,” Snoke says, right before a shot of Rey holding a lightsaber comes across the screen.

“Something, inside me, has always been there,” she says. “Then I was awake … But I need help.”

As the video continues, a training montage featuring Rey and Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To is shown — along with clips of a battle-scarred spaceship flying Kylo Ren taking aim at what appears to be General Leia’s ship.

“I’ve seen this raw strength only once before,” Skywalker tells Rey. “It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.”

Ren then adds, “Let the past die … Kill it, if you have to … That’s the only way to become what you were meant to be.”

The trailer goes on to show a laundry list of Star Wars characters — including Poe Dameron, Finn and Chewbacca. It closes with Snoke uttering the ominous Emperor Palpatine line from “Return of the Jedi” — “fulfill your destiny” — and a possible confrontation between Ren and Rey.

“I need someone … to show me my place in all this,” Rey says, prompting Ren to extend his hand to her.

While Star Wars trailers tend to debut during comic-cons and other fan events, this one was dropped during halftime of the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings game.

Before Monday, fans had only gotten to see glimpses of Rey and the gang in a short teaser trailer that debuted in April and a behind-the-scenes clip that was released this summer.

Director Rian Johnson was urging fans to stay away from the new trailer Sunday, saying they should “avoid it” if they want to remain in the dark about the film.

“I am legitimately torn. If you want to come in clean, absolutely avoid it. But it’s gooooood,” he tweeted in response to a fan who asked whether he should watch it.

Johnson later explained that while he doesn’t want to keep people from seeing the trailer, he is worried that the new footage will give away key plot points — that would otherwise remain hidden until the premiere.

“More stuff is coming, that’s the nature of the beast,” he said. “But I fully endorse avoiding everything you can from now till December!”

Monday’s trailer drop coincided with the “Last Jedi” ticket release, with movie stubs going on sale online as the clip aired.

Fans flocked to Fandango, Cinemark and other online ticket sites, such as Alamo Drafthouse and Atom Tickets, to get their seats.

Episode 8 is slated to pick up right where “The Force Awakens” left off — with Luke meeting up with Rey and making his triumphant return to the Star Wars universe.

The two are expected to train together during the movie while characters Finn and Poe embark on separate quests.

General Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher, will be taking on a more important role this time around — with Johnson describing her character arc as an emotional one.

Other characters that will be returning for the film are Captain Phasma, R2-D2, and of course, BB-8, who will be pitted against a Dark Side version of itself, dubbed BB-9E.

The menacing black and gray droid doesn’t appear in the new trailer, but BB-8 does.

Many new faces are expected to be featured in “Last Jedi” — including the Caretakers and the Porgs, which have already become fan favorites.

The tiny creatures were also spotted in Monday’s trailer, yelling alongside Chewbacca.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 15.
