Secret diamond auction expected to net millions

New York’s most exclusive invite is so hush-hush attendees didn’t find out where to go until Monday morning.

That’s when mining powerhouse Rio Tinto disclosed the Midtown hotel location of its 2017 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender — a collection of 58 diamonds weighing 49.39 carats — for viewing later the same day. The Post is keeping the exact location secret for security reasons.

Among this year’s collection from Australia’s Argyle mine is the fabled “Argyle Everglow,” a certified Fancy Red rock of 2.11 carats that Rio Tinto touts as being “unprecedented in size, color and clarity.”

Regular attendee Jordan Fine of New York’s JFine Diamonds says those chosen to participate in Monday’s “one-time-only look see” will wake up to an email giving the location and time of their private appointment.

Attendees with good buying records — bids aren’t due until Oct. 11 — are allotted up to three preview hours with the rocks and the guards securing them.

The Argyle Everglow is expected to fetch over $10 million on its own, although, in truth, we’ll never know. Bids are sealed, and Rio Tinto never reveals what the winners pay.

Fine wouldn’t tell us how much he’s bidding for the show-stopping Everglow but told The Post the entire collection will easily command more than $1 million a carat.
