Human remains from the 1800s found at SoHo construction site

A hardhat found a 19th century human skull at a SoHo construction site Thursday, police said.

The grisly discovery happened around 10:15 a.m. at 11 Greene Street between Grand and Canal streets, according to cops.

Police and the city Medical Examiner responded to the scene where they confirmed the remains were human.

Officials believe that the skull – found where a mixed-use 7-story residential building is being constructed – is from the 1800s, according to cops.

The official Twitter account for the NYPD’s 1st Precinct tweeted out a photo of the skull amid the dirt of the construction site as a humorous “Throwback Thursday,” saying “You can’t beat this #tbt.”

According to the 1st Precinct, the city Medical Examiner office’s forensic anthropologist “says the human skull discovered in #Soho today is ‘historic’ & dates back to the 1800’s.”

Passersby were shocked.

“Jesus f—king Christ,” exclaimed one woman who works at the Foscarini Spazio lighting store on the same block.

A construction worker at a site across the street said he got a glimpse of the ancient skull.

“I saw a skull, saw the top of it,” the worker said. “I wouldn’t say I’m freaked out.”
