Seton Hall begins next year’s reload with Syracuse transfer

It looks like Seton Hall has found its Angel Delgado replacement.

Syracuse transfer Taurean Thompson has enrolled in classes at the New Jersey school, sources confirmed. The multi-talented, 6-foot-9 forward from Harlem averaged 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 18 minutes per game while shooting 54 percent for the field for the Orange as a freshman and has three years of eligibility left. He will have to sit out this year.

Seton Hall declined to comment. The Asbury Park Press first reported the news. It is unclear if Thompson has received an official release on his scholarship from Syracuse.

A top-100 recruit in high school, Thompson picked Syracuse over Seton Hall and Michigan State last summer. He would be a significant addition, as the Pirates not only will graduate Delgado, but fellow seniors Khadeen Carrington, Desi Rodriguez and Ismael Sanogo.

On Monday, Syracuse announced Thompson had withdrawn from the school.

“We have been informed that Taurean is taking a leave of absence from Syracuse University,” coach Jim Boeheim said in a statement to Syracuse.com. “My understanding is he wants to go to school closer to home due to some family health issues.”
