Cop who helped bust Chelsea bomber arrested for DWI

One of the New Jersey police officers celebrated for the arrest of Chelsea bomber Ahmad Khan Rahimi will have his own day in court — for driving drunk.

Linden Police Officer Angel Padilla, 49, was reportedly driving a 2011 Jeep drunk when his vehicle struck a 2013 Cadillac on West St. George Avenue in Linden on Saturday evening, NJ.com reported.

Padilla, a 17-year veteran, was arrested and charged with DWI for the crash after fellow Linden officers recognized and reported him to supervisors, the paper reported.

The driver of the Cadillac, a 54-year-old woman, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Padilla was hailed as a hero after he was shot in the torso responding to a report of a man — later determined to be 28-year-old Rahimi — sleeping in the doorway of a Linden bar on Sept. 19.

The bombing suspect began firing at Padilla and responding officers after they tried to wake him.

Rahimi’s arrest put an end to the three-day manhunt that started when the Afghan-born bomber placed a pipe bomb along the route of a Marine Corps race in Seaside Park, NJ.

Later that same day, more than 30 people were injured when a pressure-cooker bomb that Rahimi placed at West 23rd Street exploded. Another bomb that was placed at West 27th Street failed to detonate.

Rahimi pleaded not guilty to several counts of attempted murder for the Linden gun battle.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office and the Linden Police Department declined NJ.com’s requests for comment.

The Post was unable to reach Padilla for comment.
