Danish authorities assume missing journalist is dead

Danish authorities searching for the Columbia University-educated journalist last seen boarding a submarine say it’s now a search, “for a dead person.”

Freelance journalist Kim Wall, 30, was last seen alive boarding the UC3 Nautilus in Copenhagen with the submarine’s owner Peter Madsen last week, as part of her research for a feature story.

“It is our clear presumption that we are looking for a dead person,” chief investigator Jens Moeller Jensen said in a clip released by Copenhagen police Thursday, the Washington Post reported.

“We are still missing a corpse,” he said.

Madsen was questioned by authorities after the submarine sank. Police later arrested him on manslaughter charges in Wall’s disappearance, though he has denied any wrongdoing.

Danish divers are searching areas in the Oresund Straight off southern Copenhagen and Swedish colleagues have been searching their coast line by helicopter.
