Ryan Lochte is making waves again — the good kind.
The Olympic swimmer, who caused a firestorm of controversy during last year’s summer Olympic games, returned to the pool Saturday in New York for the US Open.
Last August, Lochte claimed that he and teammates Jimmy Feigen, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After it was revealed that aspects of his story were fabricated, Lochte, 33, was suspended from swimming for 10 months.
“I don’t really have many thoughts,” Lochte told USA Today about what his comeback means to him. “My suspension is up and this is my first meet back. That’s all I really can say.”
During his ban from all domestic and international US national team competitions, Lochte did swim in competitions run by other governing bodies. In April, he partook in the U.S. Masters Swimming Spring Nationals in Riverside, Calif.
The 12-time Olympic medalist also recently became a father. His son Caiden, with fiancee Kayla Rae Reid, 25, was born in June.
“People live and learn and I’ve lived and learned and moved on,” Lochte said.
