Two Martin Shkrelis show up at the same courthouse

Two Martin Shkrelis popped up in the Brooklyn federal courthouse Friday — the notorious “pharma bro,” who was hiding in the cafeteria waiting on a verdict in his fraud case, and his lesser-known unrelated namesake, who pleaded “not guilty” on charges of money laundering.

The “other” Shkreli, 59, told reporters he was aware that the younger man was facing his own federal charges but added that the pair had never met.

When asked if he also loved Twitter — the “pharma bro,” 34, is a notorious tweeter — the older man chuckled, “I don’t need that kind of fame.”

The white-haired — and tie-wearing — Albanian sat behind the other Shkreli’s father, Pashko Shkreli, in the gallery. The two men shook hands.

The younger Shkreli is known for his casual no-tie look in court.

The older Shkreli is among nine people accused of laundering about $800,000 as part of a drug-running operation

He entered his plea before the same judge overseeing the younger Shkreli’s trial, Kiyo Matsumoto. The jurist offered no acknowledgment as to the coincidence, other than a slight pause before reading his name.

As part of the older Shkreli’s case, the feds also brought down Dilber Kukic, the general contractor charged with manslaughter in the deadly 2015 East Village building explosion. Incidentally, Kukic is represented by the younger Shkreli’s lawyer, Ben Brafman.

Meanwhile, jurors continued deliberations into the fate of the younger Shkreli — a k a “the Most Hated Man in America,” having now clocked more than 35 hours in the jury room.
