Special counsel Robert Mueller is probing possible money laundering by Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign manager, as part of his investigation into Russian interference in the election, a new report said Thursday.
The investigation by Mueller began just several weeks ago, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The paper said Senate and House intelligence committees also are probing possible money laundering by Manafort.
A spokesman for Manafort declined to comment, as did Mueller’s spokesman.
The investigation is looking at Russian meddling in the 2016 US election as well as whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin.
Trump has called the probe “fake news” and a”witch hunt” and has denied any collusion.
