Cops must stop knocking phones out of hands: CCRB

Camera-shy NYPD cops are knocking smartphones out of people’s hands, blocking their view and threatening them with arrest to keep from being filmed, according to the Civilian Complaint Review Board.

A report set for release Wednesday — amid a court-ordered program that has 1,200 cops testing out body cameras — says the CCRB got 257 complaints over three years from people who claimed cops interfered with their recordings.

The CCRB found official misconduct in 28 percent of 347 specific allegations.

The report recommends adding a new section to the NYPD Patrol Guide that clearly spells out what constitutes improper interference with a civilian’s right to record cops.
