Steve Scalise ‘doing well’ after surgery

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has come out of surgery after a gunman opened fire on GOP members during an early Wednesday morning baseball practice in Virginia, according to report.

The top Republican lawmaker from Louisiana – who took a bullet to the hip – was “doing well” after undergoing surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, according to NBC News.

Scalise was on the field at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park in Alexandria when the gunman, identified as Illinois resident James T. Hodgkinson, started blasting away.

Along with Scalise, two US Capitol Police officers, congressional staffer Zach Barth, who works for Congressman Roger William (R-Austin) and one other were wounded.

“I got shot this morning at the baseball fields but I am in the hospital and okay. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers,” Barth posted on Facebook.
