A driverless car is officially coming to New York

The first driverless car demonstration in New York State is scheduled in a couple of weeks when an Audi autonomous vehicle wheels around the state Capitol, Gov. Cuomo announced Wednesday.

The governor, a car buff, is not expected to be inside the vehicle at the June 13 event.

“This technology has the potential to decrease accidents and save lives on our roadways, and with this approval, we are one step closer to a safer and stronger New York for all,” Cuomo said.

Audi’s car allows hands-free driving at highway speeds but allows drivers to take over if necessary.

The car company will have one engineer in the front seat and one in the back for the demonstration.
