Dock officials blame parents of girl dragged in water by sea lion

The parents of the little girl who was dragged into the water by a sea lion have only themselves to blame for their daughter’s terrifying ordeal, according to the honchos of the dock she was snatched from.

The dramatic video of the incident Saturday clearly shows the massive marine mammal snapping at the pigtailed tot before she’s allowed to sit down with her back to the beast — which then drags her into the water by her dress, the pier’s general manager told The Post.

“It wasn’t a wise move by that family, c’mon, give your head a shake. This little girl was snapped at once, maybe you shouldn’t do this,” said Bob Baziuk of the Steveston Harbor Authority in British Columbia, Canada.

The dock also has ample signage instructing people not to feed the creatures, but some visitors just ignore them, as this family evidently did, he added.

“This is where fishermen sell their catch direct to public, it’s not SeaWorld. Some people don’t read signs or don’t care, they’re blockheads, they think it’s OK for kids to get close to the sea lions,” Baziuk said.

The head of the harbor made similar scathing remarks to the Canadian press.

“You wouldn’t go up to a grizzly bear in the bush and hand him a ham sandwich, so you shouldn’t be handing a thousand-pound wild mammal in the water slices of bread,” Robert Kiesman, chair of the Steveston Harbour Authority, told the CBC.

It’s still unclear who the little girl and her family are — they didn’t stick around to speak to anyone at the harbor or the local who captured the video, according to reports.

The kid — and the man who jumped in to save her — appeared to be unharmed in the footage, Baziuk said.

“I just hope that little girl’s OK. It appears she was OK when she walked away in the video,” he said.

The Canadian is bemused by how far the viral video had traveled — and that New Yorkers finally had something to talk about other than the Rangers’ playoff loss to the Ottawa Senators — but hopes the cautionary tale will spread far and wide.

“If you’re incredibly stupid, watch this video and maybe this will help you,” said Baziuk.

“This media is a poster child for why you shouldn’t do that. You’ve gotta protect people from themselves sometimes. That’s the message: Do not do this, respect wild animals.”
