Boxing champ arrested in car riddled with bullet holes

Troubled boxer Adrien Broner has been arrested amid claims he was found in a bullet-ridden car following a gun attack.

The former world champion was taken into custody after officers discovered him in a “shot-up” SUV early Thursday morning.

Broner, 27, is one of the most controversial boxers in America having emerged onto the scene as a prodigy of Floyd Mayweather. But his career has gone into a downward spiral since winning four world titles.

Broner was arrested by police in Covington, Ky., outside Cincinnati, on an open warrant and was released on bail after posting a $503 bond.

He was driving a rented Chevrolet Suburban and was stopped by police as he tried to cross into Kentucky. Officers had been responding to reports of gunfire in the local area, and when they searched Broner’s car, they found as many as eight bullet holes.

The fighter told police he had been followed by an unknown attacker as he left the G-Money bar in the city. Broner then claimed in his police interview that the assailant then fired several shots at him, hitting the car, though he escaped unhurt.

A search of the area later found 10 9-mm bullet shells on the floor close to where Broner claimed he had been shot at.

It is not the first time Broner has experienced a brush with the law.

He was arrested in January 2016 over an alleged bust-up over a gambling dispute. Broner was charged with felonious assault and aggravated robbery following the incident in a bowling alley parking lot, before the charges were dropped after the victim failed to attend two court hearings.

Broner is currently trying to rebuild a career that started to huge acclaim when he first burst onto the scene.

He is a former world champion at junior lightweight, lightweight, welterweight and super-lightweight — and Ring Magazine once rated him as the fifth best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
