Woman who plunged into river during terror attack dies

The Romanian woman who plunged into the Thames River as a madman sped across the Westminster bridge has died, according to reports on Friday.

Andreea Cristea, 31, is now the fifth victim from the March 22 terror attack and six others are still recovering in the hospital, the BBC reported.

Cristea had been on vacation in London with her boyfriend, Andrei Burnaz, who was in the city to celebrate his birthday and planned to propose to her on the day Khalid Masood drove into crowds on the bridge and stabbed a policeman to death, Romania’s UK ambassador Dan Mihalache told the BBC.

Cristea, who worked as an architect, had been fighting for her life, but died from her injuries on Thursday, a statement from the family read.

She was in serious condition when first responders rescued her, but was unable to recover.

“Our beloved and irreplaceable Andreea—wonderful daughter, sister, partner, dedicated friend and the most unique and life loving person you can imagine—was cruelly and brutally ripped away from our lives in the most heartless and spiritless way,” the statement read.

“She will always be remembered as our shining ray of light that will forever keep on shining in our hearts.”

The family said there are “no words” to describe “the crushing pain and emptiness that is left in our hearts.”

They ask donations in her name be made out to charity.

Mihalache said Masood’s car hit Burnaz before pushing Cristea into the Thames. Burnaz suffered a broken foot.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the fatal rampage, which also claimed US tourist Kurt Cochran, 54, from Utah and three others.
