‘This is a witch hunt’: Trump says Flynn is right to ask for immunity

Ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn’s request for immunity from dual FBI and congressional probes is justified, according to his former boss, who chalked up the investigations to a “witch hunt” sparked by political rivals and the press.

“Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt (excuse for big election loss), by media & Dems, of historic proportion!” President Trump tweeted Friday morning.

Flynn reportedly has said he’d be willing to testify in investigations regarding the Trump campaign’s ties with Russia in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

“General Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” according to a Thursday night statement from Flynn’s lawyer, Robert Kelner.

“No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution,” Kelner added.

No agency or congressional committee has accepted Flynn’s offer for testimony in exchange for immunity, the Wall Street Journal reported.
