Pregnant woman struck by bus while crossing the street

A pregnant woman was struck by a charter bus as she was crossing the street on the Upper East Side on Fridaymorning, fire officials and witnesses said.

The woman was walking across East 85th Street at 11:18 am when the bus, which was headed north on Madison Avenue, tried to turn left. The driver’s side front tire ran over the woman’s leg, leaving her screaming on the street, said witnesses.

“I just saw her laying on the ground,” said one witness. “She was hysterically crying for her husband…It was her right foot, dangling off. It was not good.”

The bus driver backed over her leg again to try to free the woman, according to the witness.
“She was screaming at the top of her lungs,” she said. “I hope she’s okay.”

The woman, who is visibly pregnant, was taken to New York=Presbyterian Hospital and is expected to survive.
The bus driver has not been charged and there is no criminality suspected, said cops.
