Italian police get a new supercar

Italian police have a new weapon to put the brakes on highway speedsters – a brand-new Lamborghini Huracan.

The blue and white sports car holds a monstrous 610-horsepower V10 engine that can propel it from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and to a maximum speed of over 200 mph.

Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali donated the car to the highway patrol — known as the Polizia — and presented its keys Thursday to Interior Minister Marco Minniti in Rome.

“We are very proud to continue our collaboration with the police and to be able to contribute to bringing the forces of law and order closer to the people,” Domenicali said, The Guardian reported.

The vehicle will be based in the city of Bologna, the automaker’s headquarters, where it will patrol the famed Autostrade highways on its blue-tinted P Zero Pirelli tires, Motor Trend reported.

When not terrorizing speed demons, the defibrillator-equipped Huracan will act as a first-aid vehicle.

“An essential task of the Huracan Polizia is to provide medical assistance,” Lamborghini said, the Telegprah reported. “To this end, the luggage compartment at the front of the vehicle hosts a special refrigeration system for the urgent transport of organs to be transplanted.

“To provide emergency first aid to the injured, the Huracan is also equipped with a defibrillator, which can save lives,” it added.

The two-seater also comes equipped with a gun holster, portable extinguisher, VHF police radio, computer, camera and other crime-fighting gadgets.

It even has hooks to hold a low-tech device — a “paletta,” the traditional hand-held red-and-white “stop” sign, CNN reported.

The Lambo isn’t the first supercar pressed into police service.

Another Huracan has been operated by Rome’s traffic cops since 2015, and a Gallardo LP560-4 — with a top speed of 230 mph — will be retired as the new vehicle enters service.
