Thursday was not a good day to be in Las Vegas — as a powerful dust storm sent trees and street poles flying, toppled big rigs, ripped off roofs, and caused widespread power outages.
More than 40,000 people were believed to be without electricity as a result of the insanely windy weather, according to officials.
At least one person was said to have suffered a minor injury, when a construction wall collapsed inside the Monte Carlo hotel-casino, FOX5 Las Vegas reports.
The National Weather Service first issued the dust storm warning at around 6:30 p.m. — and tweets and photos showing the chaotic aftermath began to pour in soon-after.
“The apocalypse begins,” joked Cameron Coaley, who posted footage of a mangled up casino sign and some more damage in downtown Las Vegas.
One Facebook user wrote that they witnessed a pair of “16 wheelers” getting flipped during the storm, which unleashed 70 mph winds throughout the evening.
The weather service recorded gusts up to 82 mph at the Red Rock Conservation Area.
The dust storm warning was said to still be in effect as of 11 p.m. local time.
