‘Granny Gem Thief’ gets house arrest for stealing necklace

Stealing never gets old for this thief.

A notorious 86-year-old serial shoplifter has been banished from shopping malls and must serve house arrest following her latest theft conviction.

Doris Payne, whose decades-long career of swiping jewels earned her the nickname “Granny Gem Thief,” was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to felony shoplifting charges in DeKalb County Superior Court in Georgia, WXIA reported.

She was sentenced to four months of house arrest, three years of probation and 30 days in jail, which was reduced to time served.

The octogenarian is also prohibited from entering Von Maur department stores and all shopping malls in DeKalb County.

Payne was out on bond on another shoplifting case when she was busted in 2016 for stealing a nearly $2,000 diamond necklace from a Von Maur store.

Her rap sheet dates back to 1952 and her ripoffs have spanned the world, including Paris and Monte Carlo.

In 2014, the repeat robber was sentenced to two years behind bars for stealing a $22,500 diamond-encrusted ring in California but was released three months later because of overcrowding.
