Models in wheelchairs stun on the runway

Talk about Haute Wheels. On Thursday, models in wheelchairs hit the catwalk at Moscow fashion week.

The runway show exhibited a new collection by Open World, a nonprofit partnership that advocates for people with disabilities, the Daily Mail reported.

Women of varying heights and sizes — some standing, some seated — modeled velvet dresses, netted veils and skintight leather looks.

Wheelchairs on the runway are a fairly recent development in the fashion world. The first woman to appear on a New York Fashion Week runway in a wheelchair was Danielle Sheypuk in 2014.

Later that year, ambassador for disabled models Chelsey Jay told the Daily Mail, “We don’t want this to be a one off, [let’s] see permanent disabled models, in every aspect of fashion!”
