NBC, Charter extend talks to avert midnight blackout

A midnight blackout of NBC on local cable screens has been averted.

Charter Communications and NBC-Universal on Saturday night extended the deadline for talks involving the fees the cable company pays to carry the programs.

About 1 million people in the metropolitan area subscribe to Charter — which took over Time Warner Cable and renamed it Spectrum.

NBC announced the extension but did not say how long the clock would be stopped.

Nationally about 16 million people who subscribe to Charter would be affected by a blackout.
