Yankees making Ruben Tejada their reclamation project

Former Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada has agreed to a minor league deal with the Yankees.

The deal contains an invitation to big league camp at spring training. The Post’s George A. King III reported the Yankees’ interest last week.

Behind shortstop Didi Gregorius, who enjoyed a breakout 2016 season, the Yankees have utility man Ronald Torreyes, not to mention top prospects Gleyber Torres and Jorge Mateo.

Tejada, 27, spent time with the Cardinals and Giants last season after being released by the Mets during the spring. He hit just .167 in 66 big league at-bats.

A native of Panama, Tejada infamously suffered a broken leg on a takeout slide by the Dodgers’ Chase Utley during the 2015 playoffs that resulted in a rule change by MLB.

Tejada hit .284 with a .360 on-base percentage with the Mets as a 21-year-old in 2011, but his stock has dipped considerably since then. He never has recorded even a league-average park-adjusted OPS in seven major league seasons.

“I understand this is a business,” Tejada said last March, while wearing Cardinals red. “I try to stay focused no matter what happens. Now it happened to me. It happens to everybody. You never know and now I have another opportunity here with another team.”
