Why Jeff Fisher firing will have a massive fantasy football payoff

The Rams haven’t won more than eight games in a season since 2003. Jeff Fisher hadn’t won more than eight games as a coach since 2008 with the Titans.

The Rams know what they are, and knew what their coach was. But somehow Sunday’s 42-14 drubbing at the hands of the Falcons was the catalyst that sparked the long-overdue firing of Fisher by the Rams.

It’s not the canning of Fisher that is the problem — they had justification for that seasons ago. But if they were going to make this change, this is the one week that jumps off the calendar as bad to make such a move. Because of all weeks, they picked a short week. Of all weeks, they picked the week when they travel to face Seattle at one of the most difficult venues in the league. They picked a week when the Seahawks are going to be especially angry after a drubbing by the Packers.

If Rams management thought Sunday’s Falcons rout was bad, they should fear what comes Thursday. It won’t be good for the Rams or their fans, but it could be nice for fantasy owners who have Seahawks in their lineups.

Rams coaches will be filling unfamiliar roles. Players will be disengaged. The season is lost, and they face an angry, superior team. And all of this will be happening on a short week.

Throw out the stat sheet. Don’t worry about matchups. Just put your Seahawks in your lineup. Russell Wilson, Thomas Rawls, Doug Baldwin, Jimmy Graham, Seahawks defense, obviously. Don’t be shy about using Tyler Lockett. In fact, a blowout seems so certain, and on a short week, we’re willing to go second-string RB in daily leagues. Monitor Troymaine Pope’s ankle injury, but chances are he doesn’t play. That would make Alex Collins a cheap buy-in for a game that likely will feature plenty of garbage time.

This one could reach Globetrotters-Generals status, and if so, you want as many Globetrotters as you can get.
