What a Scrooge!
Surveillance video captured a man stealing a life-size Santa Claus from the front yard of a Dyker Heights, Brooklyn home on Tuesday.
The video, posted to Facebook by resident Anthony Parascandolo, shows the Grinch pull the 5-foot-tall plastic Old St. Nick that sits on a blow-up couch from the man’s 75th Street home just before 6 p.m.
Parascandolo said that after he returned home with his 5-year-old daughter from her dance class Tuesday night, he realized the Santa Claus was missing.
“She got out of the car and yelled out, ‘Daddy, where’s Santa Claus?’ When I got out, I looked and Santa Claus was gone,” the 37-year-old told The Post.
Parascandolo said that in the 25-second surveillance clip the crook can be seen, taking out a knife and cutting the wire away that I had and then pulling the Santa Claus away.”
The father of two said that he is feeling “shock and the disbelief that something like this could happen, almost violated kind of in a way.”
“If somebody’s gonna steal a 5-foot Santa Claus that blows up, they’re willing to steal anything,” he said. “The guy just did it nonchalantly.”
Parascandolo, who has put up the Christmas decoration for the past 3 years, said that he immediately filed a police report at the 68th Precinct following the incident.
“Something like this shouldn’t happen and it almost feels like, what am I supposed to do now? If I want to put something else in front of my house, what am I supposed to do, chain it down?”
Parascandolo pleaded that the thief “return” the Santa Claus “for the good of whatever.”
The south Brooklyn neighborhood is famous for its annual over-the-top Christmas lights display.
