‘That’s a 15-yard penalty for hugging me’

Earl Thomas embraced an official after a touchdown. In return, he felt the embrace of the (NFL) law.

The Seahawks safety was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on Sunday in New Orleans for hugging a referee after a touchdown.

Thomas recovered a fumble by Mark Ingram and scampered 34 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. After handing the football to a fan in the stands, he spread his arms and jumped for a hug with the official, who did not meet him in the air.

After the non-mutual cuddle, the referee can be seen constraining a grin as he reached for his penalty flag.

The league has been cracking down on celebrations of all kinds this year, and love appears to be on the outlawed list.
