A deranged West Virginia man has been charged in the rape and death of his girlfriend’s 10-month-old girl, according to reports.
Benjamin Ryan Taylor, 32, was busted Monday after he allegedly sexually assaulted little Emmaleigh Adkins, whose bloodied body was discovered by her mother in their Cottageville home early that morning, ABC 13 reported.
The mom, Amanda Adkins, called 911, but the tot died in her arms as police and emergency medical technicians responded to the scene, the TV station said.
She told authorities that she found the battered baby near death on the basement floor.
Cops noticed Taylor was trying to “wipe something” off his groin, which was later found to be the baby’s blood, according to WSAZ.
Bloodstained blankets and clothes were strewn in the area where Taylor had been assaulting the baby in the basement, the station said.
Taylor initially denied knowing how the baby received her injuries, but then changed his story, saying he “blacked out” while doing his laundry with the child, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
In addition to being sexually assaulted, Emmaleigh was savagely shaken and suffered severe head injuries.
Police officials were sickened by the monstrous attack.
Jackson County Sherriff Tony Boggs went so far as to say, “I’ve not encountered anything of this nature as long as I’ve been here.”
Three other kids were reportedly in the house at the time, but none of them appears to have been assaulted.
Taylor is being held on $2 million bail in South Central Regional Jail.
