The latest Baby Bomber was once their brightest hope

For outfield depth, the Yankees recalled Mason Williams from Triple-A even though the RailRiders have started their playoffs.

Williams was summoned after SWB lost to the Gwinnett Braves on Tuesday. Williams has struggled with injury problems. Last June with the Yankees, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

“I feel fine. Hopefully, those boys can continue winning and win a championship in Scranton. But I feel good to be here,” said Williams, who claimed watching minor league teammates get summoned has “been extremely exciting. It’s been fun, it’s been uplifting for everyone.”

Girardi said Williams was “the next guy in line” in the minors and could be used in a platoon system. Williams entered the game in the eighth inning in right after Brian McCann pinch hit for Rob Refsnyder.

“I thought he played pretty well when he was up here for that short time last year before he got hurt,” Girardi said.

Williams noted he and his RailRiders teammates followed Yankees games. Someone asked how the team watched the games: “We stand in front of the TV and just watch,” he said.
