Chase Headley risks his neck to seal Yankees win

HOUSTON — Watching Chase Headley hit his head on the wall in foul territory diving for a pop-up in the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s 6-3 win over the Astros was an uncomfortable visual for the Yankees.

Fortunately for the Yankees, Headley got up, remained in the game and believes he will be able to play Wednesday when the Joe Girardi’s club attempts to complete a three-game sweep.

“I didn’t want to flip over the wall,’’ said Headley, explaining why he dove headfirst for the ball. “I’m fine right now. Hopefully, I don’t wake up too stiff.’’

After Headley, who has a history of back problems, the Yankees have as third-base possibilities utility infielder Ronald Torreyes and Rob Refsnyder, who hasn’t started a big league game at third this season after struggling at the new position in spring training. And, no, Alex Rodriguez isn’t in the mix.

Shortstop Gleyber Torres’ first Yankees experience Tuesday night resulted in a 0-for-5 for Single-A Tampa against Brevard County in the Florida State League.

Torres, 19, was the headliner for the Yankees in the deal that sent Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs on Monday.
