Trump expected to leak VP pick before scheduled CBS reveal

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, is expected to do an interview with his new vice presidential candidate on “60 Minutes” — even though the actual announcement is expected to be known sooner — spoiling the scoop for the CBS News Sunday program.

That would follow the precedent that “60 Minutes” set four years ago, when it did the first joint sit-down interview with Mitt Romney and his selection for veep, Paul Ryan — even though the choice was actually revealed before the sit-down.

In an interview with The Post last week, Trump dropped broad hints that the first sit-down would go to “60 Minutes.”

“I’m torn,” Trump said when asked if he would wait to announce at the convention. “The reason I’m torn is that I’m being offered massive television shows — the biggest — to announce it on those shows … like ‘60 Minutes,’ and they want to tape it on Friday and broadcast it on … the Sunday before [the convention] — and my question is, will I do it on ‘60 Minutes’? Even though by that time, you’ll know.

“I mean the advantage of that is you’re on ‘60 Minutes’ with a very major announcement — the disadvantage is that you will be giving it away before the convention.”
