Yankees prez blows up at trade deadline seller question

Randy Levine is tired of hearing the talk that the Yankees should be sellers at the trade deadline. The team’s president, when asked about it on Monday, went off on the subject.

“I don’t pay any attention to any of that. That’s for you guys [with] nothing more important to write about than to write nonsense,” he said as the team announced a sponsorship agreement with StubHub. “When we decide to become sellers, if we decide to become sellers or if we decide to become buyers, you’ll know. The difference is that most of you guys have never run anything and we have a lot of history here of knowing what we’re doing.

“[We have] a lot of confidence in our baseball operations people. So, we’ll see what happens. All the rest is just noise.”

If the Yankees do become sellers, outfielder Carlos Beltran and relievers Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller could bring back a healthy return of prospects. The Cubs were at the Stadium this weekend to scout Chapman and Miller.

The .500 Yankees (37-37) are in fourth place in the AL East, 7½ games behind the division-leading Orioles. They are only 2 games out of the second wild card spot, but tied for fourth.

The Yankees also just went 6-5 in 11 games against the moribund Twins and Rockies, at a time when they needed to make up ground. They begin a four-game series against the AL West-leading Rangers in The Bronx on Monday night.
