Pedicab driver says passenger slashed his throat

Pedicab driver Adrees Muhammad seen here with alleged slash wounds.

A pedicab passenger slashed his cabbie in the throat Saturday after being told the cost of his ride, police and the driver said.

The driver, Adrees Muhammad said that he picked up a man at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue and brought him to 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue.

When Muhammad, 27, told his man the fee — $40 – the passenger became irate and slashed his throat at about 5:15 p.m. before fleeing, he said.

“I got to the Port Authority and I told him the fare, and then when I looked back he slashed my throat,” said Muhammad, a pedicab driver for six years.

Muhammad was taken to Lenox Health Greenwich Village, where he was given 18 stitches and released around 8:45 p.m.

“I really hope they catch him,” he said, adding that he expected to be back pedaling in a week or two.
