Judge believed Brock Turner’s claim he was drunk

The judge who sentenced former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner to only six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman said he took Turner “at his word” that he was drunk at the time.

Defense attorney Mike Armstrong said during a June 2 sentencing hearing that Turner “has never denied” digitally penetrating the woman, but “in his drunken state, he remembered [the woman gave] consent,” according to transcripts obtained by CNN.

Judge Aaron Persky explained his sentence by saying: “I mean, I take him at his word that, subjectively, that’s his version of events.”
