Woman killed after gunman opens fire on group in The Bronx

A 29-year-old woman was fatally shot when a gunman fired at a group of people she was hanging out with on the grounds of a Bronx housing project Saturday night – one of three people killed in a bloody night in the borough, cops said.

Jessica White, 29, was in a group of about 10 to 12 people gathered at the rear of a building on Westchester Avenue near Jackson Avenue in the St. Mary’s Park Houses in Mott Haven when a gunman wearing a ski mask and a hooded sweatshirt approached and opened fire at about 10:15 p.m., cops said.

White, who lives in the building, was struck. She was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

White did not appear to be the intended target of the shooting. which cops said may have been gang-related.

About half an hour earlier, a man was shot multiple times at 175th Street and Monroe Avenue in Mount Hope, cops said. He was rushed to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Cops did not immediately have the victim’s age or the circumstances of the shooting.

The vehicle, an SUV, was heading north on White Plains Road near East Gun Hill Road in Norwood at about 1:20 a.m. when it rammed into the woman who was trying to cross the street, according to police.

The driver remains at large.

The name of the victim was withheld pending family notification.
