Man with guns, explosives busted on way to LA gay-pride parade

A man armed with explosives and guns was arrested early Sunday on his way to a gay-pride festival in Southern California, authorities said.

But there appears to be no connection between the incident and the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti in West Hollywood, ahead of the gay-pride parade there.

Cops in Santa Monica, Calif., answered a call about a suspected prowler when they found the man and his stash of weapons in his car with Indiana plates, the Los Angeles Times reported.

At least one of the firearms was an assault weapon, and he had tannerite, an active ingredient for a pipe bomb, law-enforcement sources said.

He told police he was in town for the L.A. Pride festival on Sunday and was headed to West Hollywood. But it wasn’t immediately clear if the man had any plans to attack parade-goers.

“[Police] were not aware of what the suspect’s intentions were at this point,” Santa Monica police spokesman Saul Rodriguez said.
