Broncos star shot during fight in strip club

Broncos All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib is recovering from a gunshot wound to his leg suffered outside a Dallas strip club early Sunday.

The Denver star, who was raised in the Dallas area and still has family there, remained in a local hospital for observation Sunday evening but was described as “OK” in a statement released by the Broncos.

Talib was one of multiple victims in an incident at VLive near downtown Dallas that began with a shooting inside the club and then spilled out into the parking lot, where police said a fight and another shooting occurred.

“We’ve spoken with Aqib Talib, who is being treated at a Dallas hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg,” Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth said. “He is expected to be released from the hospital soon, and we are glad he is OK and will make a full recovery.

“Our organization has been in touch with the NFL on this matter, and we will provide additional updates as appropriate.”

The talented Talib is no stranger to trouble, which has dogged him from the moment he entered the NFL out of Kansas in 2008.

The character questions prompted him to fall to the Buccaneers with the 20th overall pick, and Talib immediately got into trouble by fighting with a teammate during that year’s NFL rookie symposium.

Talib, who spent two seasons with the Patriots before signing with Denver in 2014, was later arrested for assaulting a taxi driver in Florida and for firing a gun at his sister’s boyfriend in the Dallas suburb of Garland.

Talib also has been in hot water with the NFL, serving a four-game PED suspension in 2012 and a one-game suspension last season for poking Colts tight end Dwayne Allen in the eye.

Talib won a Super Bowl ring with Denver last season but was a source of controversy in the 24-10 win over the Panthers, picking up two personal fouls in the first half and committing a blatant face-mask penalty that resulted in a $26,044 fine by the league.

The Broncos are scheduled to make their White House visit as Super Bowl champions this week, but a league source said Talib is unlikely to participate because of the shooting.
