St. John’s flameout Rysheed Jordan charged with attempted murder

Rysheed Jordan, the former St. John’s point guard who had NBA aspirations, was arrested Wednesday for his alleged role in a shooting in North Philadelphia, 6abc.com is reporting.

The 22-year-old Philadelphia native has been charged with attempted murder, robbery and other offenses, police told the television network.

Police said Jordan and the two other suspects met three men to sell a cellphone, but during the meeting on May 27, Jordan and the others tried to rob the victims. Jordan reportedly shot one of the victims in the arm.

He was arrested on Wednesday. When approached by the officers, he attended to run, but was captured.

The supremely talented but combustible 6-foot-4 Jordan played two seasons for St. John’s under former coach Steve Lavin, and showed glimpses of promise, averaging 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists. The former top-30 high school recruit also had off-the-court issues. There was a homophobic tweet, a suspension for violating team rules and he also took a leave of absence during his sophomore year.

Jordan considered entering the NBA Draft in 2015 after Lavin was fired, but decided against it. He initially decided to return to play for new coach Chris Mullin last spring, but he was unlikely to be eligible to play after missing so many classes, and opted to withdraw from the school.

He was drafted fifth overall in the NBA D-League by the Delaware 87ers, but only played in 11 games before getting released.
