Secret Service shoots gunman at White House checkpoint

A Secret Service agent shot a man outside the White House Friday afternoon after he pulled a gun at a security checkpoint and refused to drop it, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

The White House was briefly placed on lockdown in the wake of the shooting, which took place near 17th and E streets around 3:06 p.m.

“He was carrying a gun — it was a silver gun in clear sight,” witness Larry Samples told NBC News.

“[Authorities] yelled multiple times, ‘Stop! Stop! Stop!’ He kept ignoring them.”

The man was shot once in the stomach and rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, law- enforcement sources said.

Witness Taylor Cates told the network the man wasn’t even trying to hide his weapon as he approached the security gate.

“He had no facial expression at all,” she said.

President Obama was away from the White House at the time, playing golf at Andrews Air Force Base.
