James Dolan regrets writing ‘Fix the Knicks’ song

James Dolan has made his share of blunders while owning the Knicks, but the eccentric billionaire cable magnate owned up to one more from his musical career.

While Knicks president Phil Jackson meanders to Montana amid his coaching search, Dolan is currently on tour in Europe with his blues band, JD & The Straight Shot, as an opening act for Jewel.

In a long Deadspin feature on Dolan’s songwriting acumen, he acknowledged the 2011 tune he penned, “Fix The Knicks,’’ was his worst ditty yet.

The Post reported fans at the Jones Beach Theater groaned when he debuted “Fix The Knicks’’ while opening for Aretha Franklin.

Among the off-key lines: “Check with my friend called Isiah Thomas.’’

“‘Fix the Knicks!’ Oh, man. ‘Fix the Knicks!’” Dolan told Deadspin. “Everybody makes mistakes! I make mistakes. That was one of my mistakes. I thought I could appease the hungry masses with it. I was just thinking, well, maybe we could just write a song about it and then it will go away. That was wrong. Fortunately, nobody bought the album.”

Deadspin reported Dolan’s newest album “Ballyhoo!” isn’t selling like hotcakes either — just 113 copies, according to Soundscan, despite some positive reviews. Deadspin also reported Dolan’s band was paid an estimated $200 to open for Jewel at a small venue in Washington, DC, not that its backer needs the money.

No word on whether Dolan is crafting a new jam, “Fix Phil Jackson,’’ or a ballad about the Knicks coaching-search front-runner: “Anyone But Kurt Rambis.”

The lyrics to “Fix The Knicks”:

Everywhere I go, I hear everybody say
‘What you gonna do to make that team play’
From the folks in the street at 34th and 6th
Everyone who calls says, ‘Hey man, fix the Knicks’

(Chorus)
Fix the Knicks and make them shine
Get ’em to win like it’s ’69
Hitting all their free throws and no more shooting bricks
Time to get it right and fix the Knicks

Doing my best and that’s my promise
I check with my friend called Isiah Thomas
Pay no mind to those nasty critics
They haven’t done a thing to fix the Knicks

(Chorus)

We know we’re getting better, but still no respect
We score a lot of points, but where’s the defense?
Everyone’s an expert saying ‘Trade your draft picks’
You got to get ‘this guy’ to fix the Knicks

(Chorus)
