Debris from elevated subway track falls on child

Pieces of loose concrete broke off of elevated subway tracks in Flatbush on Tuesday afternoon, crashing down onto a children’s fair that was happening below and injuring a kid, event organizers said.

The incident happened at about 2 pm, during the Chol Hamoed festival that the Council of Jewish Organization Flatbush was hosting for kids who were off of school for Passover week.

The pieces of concrete fell from the B/Q tracks just above the Avenue M stop as a train passed overhead. One of the pieces struck a young boy who was frolicking below, putting him in Maimonides Medical Center with injuries to his face and hands.

“He had some scratches on his face and on his hands, but the kid is doing well,” said Lewis Welz of the COJO.

The MTA sent workers to the scene to remove any additional loose concrete from the tracks. The agency is investigating the incident, officials said.
