Hawaii will pay you $50,000 a year to work in paradise

Beach lovers who enjoy working with kids may have found their dream career.

Hawaii’s Department of Education is recruiting teachers in Dallas, Chicago; New York; Newark, NJ; Los Angeles; and Portland, Ore., to fill 1,600 vacancies across the eight islands. Salaries range from $35,324 to $63,665, depending on experience.

The Aloha State’s improving economy and retiring baby boomers have spiked the need for educators.

“Teachers are in such demand everywhere,” Barbara Krieg, assistant superintendent for the DOE’s human resources department, told Hawaii News Now. “Every school district is trying to steal from the other’s district.”

But living in paradise comes at a steep price: The median cost of a home in Hawaii is about $730,000.

That hasn’t seemed to stop this job posting, which has become a social media hit among college students. Some have tweeted that they’re moving to Hawaii post-graduation.
