New photo of mysterious ‘man in hat’ bomber in Brussels

Belgian authorities released new video Thursday that shows how the mysterious “man in the hat” made his getaway in the wake of last month’s Brussels bombings.

Using CCTV images and a 3-D overhead view of his escape route, authorities retraced his steps, starting from Brussels Airport, where he was spotted pushing a luggage cart next to the two suicide bombers.

After the blasts, the “man in the hat” can be seen on surveillance video exiting the building, strolling past the neighboring Sheraton hotel, turning right toward an Avis lot and then escaping on foot.

CCTV footage then shows him walking — and sometimes running — while still wearing his bucket hat and light-colored jacket.

He then ditches the duds and makes his way near Neiser Square in Brussels at around 9:42 a.m. — more than 1½ hours after the airport bombing. The surveillance cameras lose track of him less than 10 minutes later.
