Sumner Redstone restores daughter as main health-care agent

Ailing Viacom founder Sumner Redstone has restored his daughter, Shari, as his main health-care agent, The Post has learned.

Shari Redstone replaces Viacom Chief Executive Philippe Dauman as the No. 1 person responsible for the 92-year-old media mogul’s health care, sources close to the situation said Tuesday night.

Redstone, who turns 93 next month, has been in a prolonged battle with his former girlfriend, Manuela Herzer, over who will make his healthcare decisions when and if he no longer can.

The substitution of Shari Redstone for Dauman doesn’t automatically end that battle, but a settlement between Redstone, represented by Loeb & Loeb, and Argentinian beauty Herzer, represented by Greenberg Glusker, is close, sources told The Post.

The news of a possible end to the legal battle is something of a happy ending as the feud sparked almost weekly news items that were an embarrassment to the elderly Redstone.

With Shari Redstone restored as the main health-care agent, she is heading to Los Angeles to be with her father now, sources said. As part of the Herzer battle, Redstone had been scheduled to give a deposition in New York on Wednesday about the state of her father’s mental health.

That deposition is likely no longer required, sources said.

“Shari always believed she was the health-care agent,” a source said.

In addition, a trial that had been scheduled to begin in May over Redstone’s health is likely not going to happen, a source confirmed.

Also out as a Redstone health-care proxy is Viacom Deputy Chief Operating Officer Tom Dooley, who was installed by the media mogul alongside Dauman last year as Redstone’s health-care agents.

A California judge, however, raised eyebrows about their ability to care for the Beverly Hills-based Redstone, who controls both Viacom and CBS, while they ran a multibillion media company 3,000 miles away in New York.

Reps for Shari Redstone declined comment.
