Miracle dog lost at sea for five weeks found alive by US Navy

A puppy presumed dead after she was lost at sea was miraculously found alive by the US Navy — and returned to her relieved owner this week.

Nick Haworth spent a week searching California’s San Clemente Island for his furry sidekick, 1-and-a-half-year-old Luna, a German Shepard/Husky mix, after she took a dive off his fishing boat on Feb. 10.

Haworth told the Navy, which has a landing base nearby, that the dog might try to make the two-mile swim to shore — but they never found her.

That is until Tuesday — nearly five weeks after she went missing — when a crew from the Naval Auxiliary Landing Field San Clemente Island spotted the blue-eyed pooch on the sidewalk.

Luna had no physical ailments besides being slightly undernourished, and was cleared by one of the Navy’s biologists after they added a little tag to her collar that says, “For Luna, keep the faith,” according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Haworth is currently out of town on a trip to Arizona, but sent a family friend, Conner Lamb, to pick up his precious cargo Wednesday afternoon.

The playful pup immediately ran over to Lamb, who she knew from going on fishing trips with him, and jumped into his arms.

“[It’s] just really mind blowing to tell you the truth,” he told NBC. “When I got the call this happened, [I] never even thought this would be possible.”

Haworth posted a link to a story about his pooch Wednesday night on Facebook writing: “Beyond stoked to have Luna back. I [always] knew she was a warrior.”
